A new research report has recently been launched, entitled Effective Leadership in Disadvantaged Communities. Carried out by the team at Stranmillis University College, which included Prof Noel Purdy, Dr Karen Orr, and Dr Glenda Walsh, the report was funded by The James Kane Foundation and the Mary Ann McCracken Foundation.
The research team explored leadership in 13 high-performing post-primary schools in Northern Ireland where over 50% of pupils are entitled to Free School Meals. Through statistical analysis and in-depth interviews with principals, the research highlights the leadership characteristics, values, and strategies that drive school improvement, nurture pupil wellbeing, and sustain success in challenging contexts.
As an organisation with an interest in addressing disadvantage, including in education, we hope the valuable learning from this report will help inform future planning and ultimately support young people in our communities.
